米中の通商対立が再び激しさを増している。中国政府は10日、トランプ米政権が中国からの輸入品に対して追加関税を引き上げたことに対抗し、アメリカからの輸入品に課す関税率を従来の34％から一挙に50ポイント引き上げ、84％にすると発表した。
トランプ政権は、中国に対し今年2月と3月にかけて段階的に20％の追加関税を課していたが、9日午後1時すぎ（日本時間）にはさらに関税措置を発動。これにより、中国製品に対する総関税率は104％に達した。
中国側は、今回の関税引き上げについて「不当な経済的圧力に対する正当な自衛措置」としており、対立のエスカレートは不可避の様相を呈している。
両国の関税応酬は、世界経済の先行きに大きな不透明感を与えており、国際市場では為替や株価の乱高下が続いている。今後も交渉の行方が注目される。

Tensions between the United States and China have intensified once again as both sides engage in a fresh round of tit-for-tat tariffs. On April 10, the Chinese government announced it would raise tariffs on U.S. imports from 34% to 84%—a 50-point increase—in direct retaliation to the Trump administration’s recent tariff hike.
The Trump administration had already imposed additional 20% tariffs on Chinese imports in February and March. Then, on April 9 at around 1:00 p.m. Japan Standard Time, it initiated another round of duties, bringing the total effective tariff rate on Chinese goods to 104%.
China condemned the U.S. actions as “unjust economic pressure” and described its own response as a “legitimate act of self-defense.”
The escalation of tariff measures by the world’s two largest economies is casting a long shadow over global markets, with increased volatility in currencies and equities. Attention now turns to whether diplomatic negotiations can de-escalate the rapidly intensifying trade conflict.
